APRIL 2003 NEWSLETTER

**************************************************************************************************

This is my first Newsletter as Editor and I must thank Pat Hay for his help in sorting it all out.  Let's hope I can keep up Pat's high standard.

I would also like to take this opportunity of thanking Pat on behalf of us all for his sterling work over the last ten years.  Not only for his role as Newsletter Editor but also for organising the various overseas trips that many of us have enjoyed.  Thank you, Pat.

Leeds Weekend - 4th - 6th April 2003

The trip to Leeds proved to be most enjoyable and went down well with all participants.  Thanks to our guide Ken Goor, we are much better informed about all things Yorkshire!  The highlight was of course the City Varieties on Saturday night and the performers didn't let us down.  We will long remember lady with the silks. Congratulations to our very own Ron Taylor who won the prize for the best male costume.  Thanks also to John Smith for his organisation.

Rambling weekend - May 23rd/26th 2003

Gordon has sorted the problems so all that remains is for everybody to enjoy themselves.  Apologies again for confusion.   A coach will leave from Warwick and the party will stay at the Clarence House Hotel, Tenby for three nights bed, breakfast and evening meal.  There will be organised walks or, for the less energetic, touring with the coach.  Final timings will be in the May Newsletter.

There are still four or five places remaining so anybody interested in going should contact Gordon as soon as possible.   Please contact Gordon direct to check availability and confirm with the attached booking form.

Summer Lunch

Don't forget the date change - Summer Lunch now Sunday, June 22nd (Dormy House) not as advertised.

Jean will be sending details and booking form later..

Shakespeare Express - 13th July

How do you fancy Sunday lunch in a rather splendid dining car on the steam hauled Shakespeare Express between Stratford and Birmingham Snow Hill?  For £20 per head for members and first guest (second guests £32.50) including three course meal with coffee and the train fare, you can.

Lunch will be served on the 12.02 from Stratford, arriving Snow Hill at  12:56.  You can start your journey either from Birmingham Snow Hill or Stratford.  The timings are 10:38 from Snow Hill arriving in Stratford at 11:38 in time to join the 12:02.  Or you can join the 12:02 at Stratford and return on the 17:42 from Snow Hill which will allow time to spend in Birmingham.

The coach only has 20 seats so it will be 'first come, first served'.  However, it may be possible to run another trip if there proves to be sufficient interest.
