Editorial
The Summer Lunch at Dormey House was attended by 85 members who all enjoyed themselves, judging by the buzz of conversation. Thanks to Jean.
We were blessed with a fine day for the Upton Jazz Festival which attracted 30 members, with 11 enjoying an excellent lunch at the White Lion Hotel. There is certainly something at this festival for anyone who is even vaguely interested in any style of jazz music. Some members were heard to say that they will be back next year, particularly if Fapy Lafertin is playing (for the uninitiated, Fapy Lafertin is a guitarist after the style of Django Reinhardt and has an extremely professional group that held everbodys' attention). A vote of thanks to Brian Chilver.
We have two events for August - the trip to Shugborough Hall on the 13th and the Town & Country Festival on the 25th. Booking forms were sent with the last Newsletter.
Advance news - October 16th. We plan to visit Staunton in the morning, then have pub lunch, moving on to Calke Abbey for the afternoon. Final details and booking form in the August Newsletter.
During August, your committee will start planning the events programme for 2004. If you have any suggestions for events, please contact any Committee member as soon as possible.

Some members have expressed concern that they do not receive acknowledgment when they send a booking form to an event organiser, although it has never actually been a problem.. Two things can happen:-
1) The event organiser receives the booking form and cheque and adds the names to the list of attendees. The cheque is put aside and paid into the bank once the event has taken place, although for some events (e.g. overseas trips) deposit cheques may be paid in before the event takes place to assist with cash flow. In this case there is no need for acknowledgement as the attendees list will match the booking forms. However..........
2) The event organiser does NOT receive the booking form and cheque - lost in post, for example. In this case the organiser will know nothing about a booking and cannot therefore issue an acknowlegement anyway.
If any member would like to be sure that a booking has reached its destination, then there is no problem with them contacting the organiser to check. Please contact any Committee member if you wish to discuss further.

Peninsula Hotel Guernsey at New Year
The Committee have agreed to formalise this as a Club event, although the amount of any subsidy will not be known until later in the year. We are therefore asking for deposits of £50 per head in order to confirm members' interest; we will ask for the final amount when we know the amount of any subsidy. Members will be required to pay for any items such as drinks, phone calls, etc. to the hotel on departure.
The car which is included in the package will be available at the arrival point in Guernsey and we will be asking for arrival and departure times later so that the car hire company will have the car in the right place at the right time. Please also note that dinner is served from 18:30 to about 21:00 so you should have no problems if you travel later in the day.
Contact Brian Wilson for further details (01926-777710)
