Editorial

The Jazz Festival at Upton-on Severn proved very successful with the 18 participants enjoying the various bands on offer - one group of members stayed until nearly midnight and reported that it was well worth it! Our thanks to David Williams for organising the event and the weather to go with it.

------------------------------------

Regretfully, Mike Cashmore had to cancel his planned trip to Brussels and Bruges due to the travel company pressing him for final numbers.  We will perhaps have the opportunity to join one of the IBM Birmingham trips in the future.

--------------------------------------------------

Reference my remarks about the Committee's annual "brain storm" in August, we have had several suggestions for events from members, so thank you for that.   We are always open to suggestions, so please keep them coming.

Committee members have been looking at the possibility of offering some extra events for 2008.  Phil Dalton has come up to two specific ideas, details which you can see later in this Newsletter.  Firstly, a visit to an air display at Duxford on October 5th and, secondly, Sunday Lunch on the Severn Valley Railway, provisional date November 9th.

Dave Compton has put together a trip to Malvern on 4th November which should prove to be an interesting day out. See later in this Newsletter.

Cannock Chase Walk and Pub Lunch - Wednesday 6th August 2008

Particularly for those of you living in the north west of the Midlands, who may feel that things are always organised in the Warwick area, a reminder about the Walk and Pub Lunch on WEDNESDAY 6th AUGUST starting and finishing at THE HORNS INN, Slitting Mill near Rugeley. If you don't feel like the walk you could always come for lunch and a pint and a chat!! (There will even be a small subsidy for the lunch!!) Rugeley is just a few miles from the historic Shugborough House and Estate (NT) so why not make a visit there while you are in the area.?

For details of the walk see the June Newsletter. If you would like to join us contact Ken Hope on 01926 624203 or kenhope@barford.org.uk

Visit to Malvern for Morgan/Shops and Theatre 4th November 2008 (organiser Dave Compton)

On Tuesday 4th November there will be a half day/evening visit to Malvern and Worcester. You can join for all of it or you can select parts.

Itinerary

* Afternoon visit to Morgan Car Factory where one of the few remaining British cars is designed and manufactured, largely built by hand using traditional methods (maximum 20 people).

OR

* A chance to visit Worcester city for a couple of hours for general shopping, browsing antique shops, revisiting the cathedral etc.

THEN

* An early supper at Malvern Theatre

FOLLOWED BY

* A performance of 'BUDDY The Musical' at the Malvern Theatre. Buddy tells the story of the three years in which Buddy Holly  became a music legend and features a host of his greatest hits - including 'Peggy Sue', That'll be the Day', 'Oh Boy', 'Rave On', 'Heartbeat 'and 'Raining In My Heart'. You will know most of the tunes.

We are considering a coach from Warwick but you may prefer to make your own way there. However, parking is very restricted at the Morgan factory. The full cost will be between £35 and £40, depending on numbers. If you want to come to the theatre we will require a £10 per ticket deposit by return please. If there is insufficient interest in the theatre visit the deposit will be returned.

Please confirm your interest by filling in the 'interest' booking form (including a deposit if you are coming to the theatre) and sending it to Dave Compton, Ashby House, Northend, Southam, CV47 2TN
