April 2006 Newsletter

Editorial

The Committee would like to thank the 53 members and guests who attended the AGM at Warwick on 16th March. Your views are always of interest and do help to build a programme of events to interest the majority - although we can't please all the people all the time, we must be heading in the right direction as the events this year have filled up quite quickly after announcement so the message, as always, is to get your booking form in as soon as you see the announcement of an event.  For those members who were not able to attend but would like to see the minutes, I have updated the link at the end of this Newsletter to enable them to do so.

Our trip to the Wye Valley on 27th April should prove to be an interesting day out.  At the time of writing, there are a couple of places available so contact Carole immediately on 0121 704 9677 if you would like to go.  Full details appeared in the February Newsletter.

You will find details and a booking form for our visit to the Cosford Air Show later in this Newsletter.  Air shows  are always interesting events, particularly for those ex-RAF types amongst us, and this one should be no exception.  Gordon would appreciate an early response from those wishing to go as he needs to know how many tickets to buy

Visit to Wisley RHS Gardens, 23rd May 2006 (organiser Terry King)

The one day trip to Wisley RHS gardens on Tuesday 23rd May 2006 has almost filled the booked coach.  We have been able to book a slightly larger coach at minimal cost so this gives us the opportunity of opening the event to second guests.  Full details appeared in the March Newsletter but the following is an abstract and update of the main details.

We will leave IBM Warwick at 8am by coach for arrival at RHS Wisley by 11am. Depending upon traffic conditions and coach facilities, we may stop for a brief comfort break en route.

On arrival, tickets will be bought and distributed. A guided tour of the gardens has been booked for 11.15am. Meet at "The Meeting Circle" to join the tour. The timing should allow us to have a coffee beforehand. Lunch will take place in the restaurant commencing at 1pm. After lunch, you will be free to explore the gardens until our departure at 4.30-5pm. Anticipated return time at IBM Warwick is about 7.30pm.

The cost is £25 for members and first guests, second guests £35. This includes coach travel, entry to the gardens, a guided tour and lunch. For RHS members deduct £5 per head. Meals need to be pre-ordered so please make your choices on the booking form.

We propose to run a 26 seat coach from IBM Warwick to the Cosford Air Show.

The timing will be arranged to get to Cosford for mid morning and to stay until the end of flying. The Air Museum is open on the day and is included in the ticket price. A coach should have preferential access and so be better than going it alone.

The costs will be:

Member and first guest: Return Coach and entrance ticket £13.50

Ticket only, find your own way £9.00

Second Guests: Return Coach and entrance ticket £22.00

Ticket only, find your own way £12.00

Tickets at the gate on the day will be £15.00.

Any queries ring Gordon Jones on 01455 556192.
