December 2005 Newsletter
Editorial
Our lunch at the Shakespeare in Welford attracted 25 members and guests who all enjoyed a good natter with their meal. Some of our more energetic members took advantage of a very pleasant day to walk around the village and area. Thanks to Ray for organising this.
Two booking forms this month - one for the Chinese banquet at the Emporers, Leamington on 26th January and the other for lunch with Nell Gwynne at the Jephson Gardens Restaurant, also in Leamington, on 26th February. From previous experience, these will prove very popular, so get your booking forms to the organisers as soon as possible.
Looking further ahead, those who attended the Christmas Lunch will have the card with the 2006 programme of events and I have repeated the list at the end of this Newsletter for your convenience - this same list is also available by clicking the '2006 Diary' link at the end of this Newsletter. You will notice that some events do not yet have a date against them - we will update this as soon as the events have been finalised.
Finally, on behalf of myself and the Committee, may I wish all of you Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Szechuan Banquet at The Emperor's Leamington Spa 26th. January 2005
(organiser - Rick Paslawski)
By popular demand the Club has once again made a repeat arrangement with the Emperor's Chinese Restaurant in Leamington Spa. We will be served with a selection of dishes originating from the Szechuan region, which is generally accepted as the home of the best of the various Chinese cuisine's, including Crispy Duck with Pancakes. Once again a selection of quality wines selected to match the dishes will be served at the table, so the price of £16.50 for members and first guest (£25.00 for additional guests) represents very good value.
In order to ensure a convivial environment we will be seated in the semiprivate annexe to the main restaurant, so we are restricted to a maximum of thirty two covers, so early returns of the booking form are recommended. We will aim to retire to the tables at 8pm.
The restaurant (phone number 01926-313030) is located in Bath Place, a small road which runs between Bath Street and the Old Warwick Road very close to the railway bridge. Bath Street is at the south end of the Parade, whilst the Old Warwick Road runs past the main entrance to Leamington Spa railway station. There is a (free) public carpark directly outside the restaurant, but it is also very close to the railway station for those who would rather not drive.

Lunch at The Restaurant In The Park, Jephson Gardens, Leamington Spa on Sunday 26 February 2006
(organiser - Anne Hope)
Join up with friends and come to a splendid Spring Lunch and Entertainment. Meet Nell Gwynne after lunch and hear about her life, including her solutions to some very personal problems. She will be re-created by Lesley Smith wearing full authentic costume of the time who will highlight some of the humorous aspects of Nell's life. Lesley is curator of Tutbury Castle and is one of the leading experts on the private lives of women of that period. She has presented TV programmes on the subject and has a new series in preparation.
You can also visit the small tropical garden (mini-Eden Project) in the same building.
A welcoming glass of wine at 12.30 for 1.00 pm
£16.50 for members and first guests (additional guests £22.50)
- Go to Booking form and Menu - Go to Map
