Editorial
19th May saw 25 members and guests visiting the Coors (aka Bass) Visitor Centre, then on to the Vernon Arms in Sudbury with the remainder of the afternoon across the road at Sudbury Hall. The only complaint I heard was that there wasn't enough time to see everything (I did warn you not to linger over lunch!) but everybody seemed to enjoy themselves.
41 members and guests travelled to Hexham at the beginning of June to stay at the Beaumont Hotel and visit attractions in the area. We had a good look round the area although, as always, there never seems to be enough time! Several people were heard to say that they would certainly be making another visit. Many thanks to Tony for all his hard work in organising what was by general agreement a very successful trip. Incidentally, if anyone is thinking of making a visit to Hexham and area, the manager of the Beaumont Hotel told me that he could offer preferential rates to our members who had been on the trip.

Don't forget our regular visit to the Jazz Festival at Upton-on-Severn; an ever-popular event - click here if you need a booking form but please check with John Stanley first for availability of places. John' telephone is 01386-49938 but don't delay as he needs to get the Festival tickets and fix the lunch with the hotel.
You will find an announcement of our trip to Prague for the Christmas market in December. We have only been able to obtain 20 places from the travel agent and need to confirm these as soon as possible, hence the request for deposits. So get your booking forms in asap if you want to go. Further details will be announced at a later date but I know that several people will confirm that Prague is a most attractive city and the Christmas period will make it even more so.

Summer Lunch 20th July 2005 (organiser - Carole Robertson 0121 704 9677)
There is still time to book for this year's Summer Lunch is being held on Wednesday 20th July at the Old School House, Weeford, Near Lichfield again this year. We received many compliments on the quality of the cuisine so a return visit was appropriate. Plus, as we are dining a month later, weather permitting we plan to dine in the marquee this year.
You will find the menu as an attachment to this newsletter. Please make your selection and enter on the booking form.

Because of the roadworks at the A5/A38 junction, you will not be able to approach from the A38 as the turning to Weeford has been closed - the appoach from the A5 is the same as before. The map below should help.

Christmas Markets 7th to 10th December 2005 (Organiser - John Smith 01384-860882)
We are always trying to vary the type of events we provide, so this year the visit to a Christmas market will be by air to Prague. Travelsphere have provided us with a good discount for their four day break and the details are as follows:-
Price:- £245 per person
Hotel:- 3* in central Prague half-board
Flight:- BMI Baby to Prague from East Midlands airport
Also included are transfers to/from Prague airport and the hotel and a coach tour of Old Prague.
We are limited to 20 places and these will be allocated in the sequence that the organiser receives the deposit AND a completed booking form. Note that because of the limit of 20, only members and first guest will be accepted.

Improving the IBM Warwick Environment through the Arts

There is a new focus sponsored by Larry Hirst, to improve the IBM Warwick environment through the Arts. The initial emphasis is on showing the creativity of people who work at IBM Warwick. We have exhibitions of photography, jewellery and ceramics planned to be on show by July 2005.
I am looking for volunteers who are interested in giving their time to help introduce more types of art into IBM Warwick, and I wondered if any local retirees might be interested. Volunteers will be involved in finding potential artists, assisting in hanging and dismantling exhibitions, and renovation, storage and relocation of existing artwork.
I'd be grateful if you would forward this email to the retiree community and ask anyone interested to contact me direct.
