Editorial
The trip to Ireland was a great success, helped in no small measure by the glorious weather. Thanks to John Smith for all his hard work.
This month sees the rambling group taking off for Yorkshire. Gordon Jones has everything in hand so this should be another successful trip. Gordon reports that all the tickets for the Fairford Air Show have now been sold so no more bookings can be taken.
There are still a few places left for our Summer Lunch on June 9th at the new venue. Click here if you need a booking form. The ever popular Upton Jazz Festival is also in June - Brian Chilver needs your booking form by 14th June so that he can obtain tickets - click here for booking form if you need one.
Our visit to Tatton Park to include the Royal Horticultural Society Flower Show takes place on July 22nd. We have set a cut-off date of 30th June to allow time for tickets to be obtained - click here if you need a booking form.

Hursley Park Model Railway Society
I have been subscribing for some time to the Newsletter of the above society which is published weekly on their web site and have found it extremely interesting. Knowing that there are a number of railway enthusiasts amongst our members, I thought that they may be interested in subscribing.
The Newsletter is in two parts. The 'internal' version contains items specific to the Model Railway Club together with 'Nick Wheat's Net Watch' which contains information culled from many sources but which is basically items of prototype interest from both main-line and preserved railways; there is also a list of TV and radio programmes for that week which contain railway items.
The 'external' version of the Newsletter has all the club-specific stuff removed. I have spoken to the list-master (Howard) and he tells me that it is no problem to add more names to the list. Several retirees from Hursley, who were formerly members of the Model Railway Club, receive the 'internal' version but Howard doesn't think any of them are in the Midland Retirees Club. Or are they???????
If you areinterested in subscribing to Nick Wheat's Net Watch, please send me an e-mail and I will forward the resultant list to Howard.

The following verse may ring a few bells. Or perhaps not!!!
Growing Old
Just a note to say I'm living, that I'm not among the dead,
Though I'm getting more forgetful and mixed up in my head.
I've got used to my arthritis, to my dentures I'm resigned,
I can manage my bifocals but, Oh Lord I miss my mind.
Sometimes I can't remember when I'm standing on the stair,
If I'm going up for something or have just come down from there.
Before the fridge so often my mind is filled with doubt,
Now did I put the food away or come to take it out.
Sometimes when its dark and my nightcap's on my head,
I don't know if I'm retiring or getting out of bed.
If it's not my turn to write dear I know you'll forgive me, for
I may have already written and I don't want to be a bore.
But as I stand before the box my face is very red,
'Cause I didn't put this in the box
I opened it instead!
