May 2005 Newsletter

Our rambling weekend event was a great success and many thanks are due to Gordon  Jones for his excellent organisation.  Well done to Gordon and also to several other members who helped in various ways.

19th May is  the day of our trip to the Coors (aka Bass) Visitor Centre followed after lunch by a visit to Sudbury Hall.  There are a couple of places on the coach so if you would like to go contact me as soon as possible.  Several members have opted to travel in their own cars and there is no problem if you prefer to do that.

The beginning of June sees a party of us travelling to the North East which promises to be an interesting few days.  Sorry folks, but this event is fully booked.  Also in June is our regular visit to the Jazz Festival at Upton-on-Severn; an ever-popular event - click here if you need a booking form but if you want to attend the lunch, please check with John Stanley first for availability of places.

You will have noted that we were not able to put dates to all our planned events in the 2005 Diary.  However, we now have a date for our trip to Powys Castle and the Welshpool & Llanfair narrow gauge railway; this is 15th September.  Further deatils finalised and a preliminary announcement will be made when these are available.

Last month I included some general notes about our events.  To enable them to be used as a permanent reference, I have filed them as a document on our web site with access via the link at the head of the Newsletter entitled "General Notes about Events".  Any future amendments will be noted in this editorial.

I still get occasional messages from members informing me of changes to their e-mail address.  Although as the Newsletter Editor I have control of input to our web site, I do not have any control of e-mail addresses which run completely separately under Yahoogroups.  Gordon Jones, our Membership Secretary, maintains the membership database so if you change your e-mail address or any other personal details - address, telephone number, etc. - please note that Gordon is the only person who can action changes. He can be contacted by e-mail at  or telephone 01455-556192.

If any member would like more details, please drop me a note and I will endeavour to shed more light.

Alnwick Castle and Northumberland 3rd - 6th June 2005

The final arrangements are now in place; our coach will leave the top car park at IBM Warwick at 08.00 on Friday 3rd June.

I will need details of the car you will be leaving at IBM Warwick, to hand to security, if you haven't already passed them to me, please email the make and registration number so that I can prepare the list in advance.

I'm sending a note to all those attending either by email or by post, showing our itinerary for the trip.

Make sure that you remember your cameras, not only is the Northumberland scenery some of the best in the country, there will be a Photographic Competition based on our trip, details will be handed out on the coach.  Meanwhile, here are a couple of photographs to whet your appetite.

The Summer Lunch for 2005 is being held Wednesday 20th July at the Old School House, Weeford, Near Lichfield again this year. We received many compliments on the quality of the cuisine so a return visit was appropriate. Plus, as we are dining a month later, weather permitting we plan to dine in the marquee this year.

You will find the menu as an attachment to this newsletter.  Please make your selection and enter on the booking form.

- Go to Menu

Please send the booking form with your selection from the menu and your cheque to:

Rhine in Flames  11th - 16th August 2005 (organiser - John Smith 01384- 860882)

It's the painful time for this holiday, the balance of £180 per person is due on the 1st June 2005. Can you please fill in the booking form and return with your cheque by this date.

In addition, one of the coach company requirements is that everyone must have travel insurance. You will find in the booking form all the details that I need to consolidate onto the coach company's form. There are two entries for each couple. Please fill in both if your insurance details are different from your guest. If you both have the same policy, just write 'same' at the top of the second column.

Also, if you intend to leave your car at IBM Warwick while we are away, please fill in your car registration on the booking form. This is for IBM Security.

Thank you for your co-operation, I will put final details in a Newsletter nearer the time.
