August 2011 Newsletter
Editorial
Our thanks to Dave Dagley for an excellent trip to Blists Hill - plenty of interesting things to see and he has also provided us with the passport tickets so we can individually return to look at the things we missed on the day. And not only that the 35 attendees had their brains tested by Dave's quiz which made the journey back home seem much shorter.
The response to our trip to Longleat has been somewhat disappointing but it promises to be a good day, nevertheless. Perhaps members felt it to be a little too far to go for a day out? Perhaps we should have a maximum distance and perhaps be prepared to stay overnight? Let the Committee know what you think.
The planned trip to Arras in April next year is proving popular with a favourable response so far. Initial details were in the July Newsletter but I will be providing more information on final price and itinerary in the September Newsletter. If you want to be included on this trip, please send me your booking form with deposit cheque.

Chairman's Notes
We had a very busy Planning Day on Monday to decide on the initial programme of 2012 events. This year we had all the additional suggestions that we had collected from members as well as the Committee's proposals. So with over 80 ideas for events, we were spoilt for choice! Thus most of the time was spent prioritising the list to reduce the number to our top ten. We now have to do the hard work and estimate the content and cost of each event so that Phil Dalton can assess the affordability of the programme. But for now it looks new and exciting - we hope that you will agree by booking on as many events as possible, when we announce the programme at the Christmas Lunch on Tuesday 20th December.

Ethnic Meal - Advance notice.
It is hoped that the ethnic meal will, by popular request, be a return visit to the Aubergine Turkish Restaurant in Smith Street, Warwick towards the end of October probably Wednesday 26th or Thursday 27th. As I am still waiting for the restaurant to confirm prices and entertainment, I cannot formally announce the full details but I hope the price will be around £30 per head. Places will be strictly limited to a maximum of 20 people and this is to give you time to think about it. Please do not send me money now but wait for the booking form which will appear in the September Newsletter.

Announcements and Advertisments
Art & Crafts at Burton Dassett.
On the Sunday and Monday of the August Bank Holiday weekend, at All Saints Burton Dassett, there will be an Art & Crafts Exhibition including paintings by popular local artists, pottery and other crafts. As well as items for sale there will also be refreshments of tea and cakes from 11am until 6pm each day. The proceeds will be for the repair of the roof following the theft of lead for the second time in just a few years. Unfortunately the damage has exposed to the weather some of the medieval wall paintings and, although a temporary repair has been done, we need to make a permanent repair if we are to preserve these artefacts. The Burton Dassett Hills are a short distance from J12 of the M40 and will make a pleasant day out in the country, as well as supporting this ancient building. Admission to the exhibition is free but there is a small fee for parking on the hills.

Sub-Groups of IBM Club and Retirees Club
IBM Retirees PC and Technology Group (founded by Harry Green)
The IBM Retirees PC and Technology Group meets every alternate month for a lively discussion on PC and technology topics in the digital age. There are usually one or two specific presentations given by members or by outside speakers, which the members of the Group have requested. We try to provide a reasonable balance between PC "techie" topics, new technology, and topics of a more general nature such as digital television, Internet telephony and digital photography . So whether you are a newcomer to the PC or a more experienced user, we hope you will find something of interest. You are very welcome to join us.
