June 2010 Newsletter

Editorial

Our trip to Dorset was very successful and a varied programme was enjoyed by all.  The hotel was excellent, with some superb views out to sea.  Many thanks to Alan Bridgman for all his hard work.

Dave Compton has asked if I would include a piece which may be of interest to the jazz fans amongst you.  Please see later in this Newsletter.

Not a lot to report this month.  However, remember that the Committee will be having their annual planning meeting in mid-August so if you have any ideas as to what we might do in 2011 please contact any member of the Committee with your thoughts.

Chairman's Jottings.....

2010 is proceeding apace and we have already run several successful events; possibly the most varied we have attempted for a while. However, that isn't making us complacent! We are gearing up for the August session when we plan 2011 events.  Sometimes being on committees is worse than being in paid employment; thinking of interesting events is one of those times.  To help us along, we are pleased to say that three lady members are joining us at the session; last year we had two to help us -and indeed they did.  Those coming this time are Babs Hewitt, Marlise Cohen and Jane Shackleton.  I thank them for their willingness.

Whilst on about "willingness" perhaps some of you reading this could have a think then send in suggestions or any comments at all about events. Email ibmmidret@googlemail.com for this topic please. As somebody says "every little helps".

Anyway, enjoy the summer and any events you attend.

Yours,

Alan Palmer, Chairman IBM Retirees Club Midlands

JAZZ IN THE HILLS –  Friday 16th July 2010

There will be a Jazz Concert at All Saints Church, at the top of the Burton Dassett Hills in south Warwickshire, on Friday 16th July at 7.30pm with music by Jazz Salon Rouge, a local group who play regularly at various venues in Warwickshire and surrounding area. Tickets are £12 each and include a glass of wine and strawberries & cream. All Saints Burton Dassett has recently been renovated to restore the medieval wall paintings and the unheated church has wonderful acoustics. It is situated just off the B4100 between Gaydon and Warmington. Contact me for further details.  Profits from the event will go towards further restoration work that is needed.
