Editorial
Our trip to the Forest of Bowland was enjoyed by those who attended. These joint events with the Rambling Group seem to be popular - perhaps we should do more of them. What do you think?
You will have noticed that I sometimes repeat event announcements but I get the feeling that members think "seen that before". However, a memory jogger seems in order so I will sometimes expand my 'one-liner' in the Events Status section, including a link to the Newsletter where the original announcement was made.
Because we have quite long lead times on some of our events it can be easy to put off sending your booking form in. DON'T DO THIS - you may miss out on an event (it happened to one couple recently) so always get your booking forms in as soon as posible so you won't miss out. Several of our upcoming events are fully booked or nearly so - of those that aren't, don't forget our SUMMER LUNCH, the trip to the OLYMPIC SITE and the just-announced trip to LONGLEAT.

10th August Summer Lunch at Henley Golf Club. Places available - full details and booking form in May Newsletter.
20th August Train trip to North Wales. Fully booked.
7th September Trip to Longleat. Announcement and Booking Form in this Newsletter
19-25 September Alsace. Places available - see March Newsletter - contact Simon as soon possible as he needs to finalise numbers.
5th October Windsor. Fully booked.
12th October Visit to Olympic site. An outline of the trip appeared in the May Newsletter . Final timings will appear nearer the date but please get your booking form and cheque to Alan if you would like to see what's happening at the venue.
17th November Skittles at Snitterfield - details later.
30 December - 2nd January New Year in Cornwall. Members have taken up our initial room allocation but the hotel has been able to offer us more rooms. If you would like to join the festivities please get in touch with Simon as soon as possible as the hotel can't keep them available for too long. Details and booking form in May Newsletter.

Event Reports
Day trip to Cambridge - Thursday 26th May
A group of 29 of us headed across to Cambridge for a day of exploration and activity in this beautiful city. As soon as we arrived at the coach drop-off point we were met by our Blue Badge Guide for the walkers; the Chauffeur punt group found their punt nearly ready for them; and the group who had opted for the Sightseeing bus tour found their bus stop a hundred yards away. To my amazement everyone managed to find their way back to my old College, Pembroke, for lunch at 1:00pm! Lunch was served in the elegant surroundings of the Old Library - the oldest part of the College - accompanied by Pembroke College Chardonnay and Claret. After lunch everyone was allowed to wander round the College and then explore any part of Cambridge that took their fancy.

Longleat - Wednesday September 7th (organizer Phil Dalton)
A fantastic day out to Longleat. Your coach will depart from IBM Warwick at 08:00 and arrive at Longleat shortly after the opening time. After an initial tour of the Safari Park, the coach will drop you off to enjoy the many attractions of Longleat. No matter whether it is just the House and Grounds you wish to explore or spend more time going around the Safari Park. But don't forget there is also the new Jungle Kingdom, a new multi-million pound attraction for you to explore. Meerkats run around your feet, lorikeets land on your hand and monkeys swing down from their temple and climb all around you. Set sail on a sea lion escorted Jungle Cruise adventure or board the thrilling Jungle Express. If that's not enough there is also the Bat Cave, a real one and not the one containing the Batmobile and Robin! Finally and if that isn't enough, there is the 3D Hedge maze, but don't get lost in there as the coach will depart at 16:30 for the journey back to IBM Warwick.
Cost for this amazing day out is going to be in the range of £20-£27 for members and first guests depending upon the number of people travelling (£35 for second guests). Included in the price is the coach from IBM Warwick (Attendees can board at Johnsons coach depot at Henley-in-Arden if preferred, time to be advised) and a Day Ticket permitting entrance to all attractions at Longleat. No meals are included nor any additional charges for attractions at Longleat.

The late David Granger
Some of you may receive communications from the makers of a BBC programme called Heir Hunters or the production company called Flame TV. Whilst these people are not doing anything intrinsically wrong, David Granger’s family do not want to have anything to do with the programme. Therefore, after some consideration, we have taken the view that we as a group will not render support or assistance to the makers of this programme if this would cause David’s family any distress.

Sub-Groups of IBM Club and Retirees Club
IBM Retirees PC and Technology Group (founded by Harry Green)
The IBM Retirees PC and Technology Group meets every alternate month for a lively discussion on PC and technology topics in the digital age. There are usually one or two specific presentations given by members or by outside speakers, which the members of the Group have requested. We try to provide a reasonable balance between PC "techie" topics, new technology, and topics of a more general nature such as digital television, Internet telephony and digital photography . So whether you are a newcomer to the PC or a more experienced user, we hope you will find something of interest. You are very welcome to join us.
