March 2010 Newsletter

Editorial

26 members and guests enjoyed lunch at Ryton Organic Gardens with a talk from our guest from East Midlands Air Support Unit, i.e. the police helicopters.  During lunch the snow started to fall and continued to fall and we found later that two members and their guests had decided not to come due to the condtions.  I'm glad to say that everybody got home safely after a most enjoyable event which gave a fascinating insight into the work the police helicopter unit undertakes.

This month we have a party visiting Stratford Races - hope Lady Luck is smiling!

Also this month, we have the Annual General meeting on the 22nd.  AGMs are not the most exciting of events but nevertheless important to the running of the Club so we hope to see you there to give the Committee your ideas and comments -  if nothing else, it's an opportunity to catch up with other members.  If you can't make it, don't forget to complete a proxy voting form.  I am repeating some of the AGM announcement later in this Newsletter for your convenience.

--------------------------------------------------

You will see a couple of updates to the 2010 list of events .  Firstly the visit to Highgrove.  Carole has been given a date of 20th August but has been rather embarrassed by the numbers who wish to go - if you asked for a place but have not been lucky, Carole will try for a date in 2011; trouble is that Highgrove can only take parties up to a maximum of 25.

Secondly, we have a date for the visit to the Shuttleworth Collection air display.  Get this in your diary and watch for the announcement, probably in April Newsletter.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Two years ago Jonathan Ferrar, IBM UK HR Director, requested that the IBM Retiree Clubs should develop a common Constitution. After much discussion between all the UK Retiree Clubs a form of words was agreed for a Generic IBM Retiree Club Constitution. This was then approved by the UK HR Department.

Your Committee has reviewed the document, amended it with local bye-laws, and now wishes to recommend it to all members for adoption at our forthcoming 2010 AGM.

Please read the Proposed New Constitution before the AGM.  If you are unable to attend the meeting, please will you send your Proxy vote to Carole Robertson - click here for form - indicating whether you wish to approve or reject the proposed Constitution of the Midlands IBM Retiree Club.

Alan Palmer, Club Chairman
