Editorial
First of all, I'm sorry to have to announce that Alan Palmer has resigned from the Committee with immediate effect. Alan Bridgman was voted in as (Acting) Chairman, pending confirmation of the position at next year's AGM - see his note later in this Newsletter.

Having been presented by Dave Compton of a review of the Royal Day Out event, I thought it would be a good idea to review past events in more depth so that members who didn't attend would have an idea of what happens. Reviews will be written by the organiser or a member who attended. So you won't see my one-liners too often but something with a bit more meat on it. Let me know what you think. Thanks to Dave for his review and also for orgainisng a successful day out.

The status of current events is as follows:-
11 November - Skittles at Snitterfield. This event has filled up well but there may be a few places left if you're quick. Details in the September Newsletter.
26 November. PC & Technology Group meeting.
16 December - Christmas Lunch. Announcement and booking form in this Newsletter.
We will be announcing the 2011 programme at the Christmas Lunch but, due to lead times, you will see a couple of announcements in the November and December Newsletters for early 2011 events. As they say, watch this space!

Alan Palmer's Resignation
I am sorry to have to report that Alan Palmer has chosen to resign as Chairman and from the IBM Midlands Retirees' Committee. Alan has been on the Committee longer than I have and we shall all miss him. During that time Alan has seen the anomaly of his permanent Associate Member status resolved thanks to the tenacious work carried out by Ken Hope with IBM HR - he is now a fully-fledged Retiree Member! I should also like to take this opportunity to thank Alan for all the hard work he has put in and all the events he has run for the Retirees Club over recent years.

Event Report
A Royal Day Out - 15th September 2010
34 members and guests had a most enjoyable day visiting three royal venues in London . The first location was the Queen's Gallery where we were treated to a wonderful exhibition of art and artefacts from the Queen's Collection including a special display of art, jewellery and other items belonging to Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.
There was just time to grab a quick lunch before moving on to the Royal Mews where many of us took advantage of a free guided tour (rather than the audio version) which was most entertaining and informative where we saw many of the State coaches including the Gold Coach used only for Coronations. Amazingly it takes a 10-point turn to get this 4 ton coach out of its storage and there are only a few centimetres each side to get it through the doors.
We then moved on to the State Rooms of Buckingham Palace where there was also a special exhibition of a year in the Queen's life as well as other fabulous items and works of art. There was an added bonus in that our tickets, if validated at the time, give us the opportunity to re-visit all of these attractions again during the next 12 months.
