August 2012 Newsletter

Our trip to the Hampton Court Flower Show was a successful day out, partly because the weather (just for once this year!) was favourable.  The only downside was the traffic which made for a longish journey.  Many thanks to Sandra Hassall and Barry Wiggins.

This month we have the Summer Lunch and then our trip to Lichfield and Alrewas.  The latter should make an interesting day out but the response from members has been rather disappointing - in contrast, the Summer Lunch has (we think) a record attendance.  This matter will be bending the brains of the Committee at our Planning Meeting (also this month) in an effort to get the mix of events right - as always, your comments are appreciated.

Two dates for your diaries - firstly, the Skittles Evening at Snitterfield on 8th November and, secondly, the Christmas Lunch on 17th December at the Ardencote.  We haven't been to the Ardencote for some time and several members have suggested we return.

SKITTLES EVENING AT SNITTERFIELD - Thursday 8th November 2012 (organiser David Dagley)

A skittles evening has been organised to take place at Snitterfield Sports Club for the evening of Thursday 8th November 2012. This will be a 'self drive' event with a 19:30 meet and a 20:00 start time. A hot buffet will be provided that will suit both carnivores and vegetarians together with prizes for the evening's winners. Maximum number of participants will be thirty; ladies should not bowl in high heels.

Costs for the evening will be between £5.00 and £10 per head for member (including a drinks voucher) and first guest. Final cost and booking form will be in the October Newsletter but in the meantime please send me an email if you will be attending.

Sub-Groups of  IBM Club and Retirees Club

IBM Retirees PC and Technology Group (founded by Harry Green)

The IBM Retirees PC and Technology Group meets every alternate month for a lively discussion on PC and technology topics in the digital age. There are usually one or two specific presentations given by members or by outside speakers, which the members of the Group have requested. We try to provide a reasonable balance between PC "techie" topics, new technology, and topics of a more general nature such as digital television, Internet telephony and digital photography . So whether you are a newcomer to the PC or a more experienced user, we hope you will find something of interest. You are very welcome to join us.
