Midlands IBM Retirees Club - August 2025 Newsletter
The next tech club meeting will be at 11 am on Friday 19th September (postponed from August). Paul Gover will host a discussion on the features, operation and use of Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) for such things as connecting to one’s own devices over the Internet, and using the Internet abroad. Paul might be able to explain some of the above, if he can understand it in time! See below for more information about joining the meeting.
There will be a trip to the Batsford Arboretum towards the end of October. The date and details will be confirmed in the September newsletter.

E2508AGM: Club AGM and Summer Lunch 11th August 2025
The AGM was held at the Gaydon Village Hall starting with coffee at 10.30 a.m. and was attended by 25 members.
John Rickman gave the chairman’s welcome speech. This was followed by the treasurer’s report from Paul Gover. The existing committee of six members were willing to continue in their roles and were duly elected for another year. Ray Bradshaw gave an overview of the events that have taken place this year. The minutes of the meeting will shortly be available on the club website.
The AGM finished at 11.30 and the attendees were welcomed to play games which had been set up in John and Julie’s garden next door. The games included pitching and putting, clock golf and croquet.
After the games a summer lunch was provided in the Village Hall. The lunch was created by Julie Rickman and Christine Bradshaw.

The IBM Tech Club is a place where you can talk to IBM folk about matters technical. For example, help or advice on buying or using computers, smart phones, touch pads; engineering, electronics, wifi, bluetooth, cryptography, bitcoin, using computers to making movies, songs or musical works, best software, streaming, the internet, photography, diy, and anything else about the modern world you would like to understand better.
Apart from the technical discussion we try to have a talk by a club member at each meeting. This depends very much on members volunteering to prepare and show something they are interested in.
Meetings will take place on an ad hoc basis as and when we have members who have a topic to discuss, so please get your suggestions in to John Rickman! On the day of the meeting click on the link below. It should take you straight into the meeting.
