Event Reports

Event Report: E2210TFT: Triumph Motorcycle Factory Tour Wednesday 24 November 2022

Fourteen people made it to the Triumph factory at Hinkley for our tour, meeting up in the cafe for a coffee and natter beforehand, with a chance to look at a range of Triumph engine blocks.

The very informative guide (he could talk the hind legs off a donkey) took us round the crankshaft manufacturing and quality control areas, and then past a new production line which will, when up and running, be supplying Europe with their custom-built motor cycles. However, all hands were employed in retrofitting ECU chips to their backlog of cycles built when the chip shortages hit everyone - at least they are in the happy position that all that production was already sold.

The tour took most of the afternoon, so those who hadn’t looked at the museum beforehand had to rush to see it. Sadly, we were not allowed to photograph inside the factory, though we could in their large museum next to the cafe. My photos of the latest machines there don’t give the full impact of their size - they’re huge beasts that you almost climb into rather than onto!

Photos from the trip can be seen on Dropbox.

Event Report: E2212XML: Christmas Lunch Wednesday 7 December 2022

Following an email poll, interest in this event suggested more than 40 prospective bookings, and we actually ended with 30 guests at Côtes Brasserie in Leamington. The restaurant reserved a special area for us with dedicated serving staff who were both friendly and efficient. Service and food were excellent and, unusually for a multiple gathering, no complaints were received.

IBM Retirees Technology Group

The IBM Tech Club meets using the Zoom video conferencing platform at 11.00 on the third Friday of each month. The club is a place where you can talk to IBM folk about matters technical. For example, help or advice on buying or using computers, smart phones, touch pads; engineering, electronics, wifi, bluetooth, cryptography, bitcoin, using computers to making movies, songs or musical works, best software, streaming, the internet, photography, diy, and anything else about the modern world you would like to understand better.

Apart from the technical discussion we try to have a talk by a club member at each meeting. This depends very much on members volunteering to prepare and show something they are interested in.

At 11 o’clock on the day of the meeting click on the link below. It should take you straight into the meeting.

If you need help with Zoom contact John Rickman (rickman@argonet.co.uk) in good time before the meeting.
