Your new committee has been busy this month! In this newsletter we have announcements for the Spring lunch and the combined ramblers and sightseers trip to the Isle of Wight. We also have a request for expressions of interest in a trip to the Balkans.

Please note, the local agreement in place for Retiree Club members to attend Warwick Employee Club events for an annual payment has reduced from £18 to £16 for 2018. This also applies for Warwick Club members who wish to attend Retiree Club events.

E1803SPL: Spring Lunch, Wednesday 14th March (Organiser: Gary Wooding)

Because of the uncertainty of the Club’s future, the forthcoming AGM, and this year’s early Easter, I apologise for the very short notice for this year’s Spring Lunch, which is being held at…

The Oak Hotel, 8640 Stratford Road, Hockley Heath, B94 5NW.

The Oak Hotel The Oak Hotel

Arrival time is 12:00 for lunch at 13:00.

I have managed to book Ellie Targett (née Somme) as our guest speaker.

Ellie is a former news presenter and is also the daughter of a Norwegian spy hunted by the Nazis during the Second World War. Ellie found an archive of documents collected by her father and is well known as a narrator of her father’s emotional and moving story. She tells an individual story of one man’s will to survive and has captivated audiences all over the country with the heart wrenching tale.

The price for this event, which includes a welcome drink, a 3-course lunch, rounded off with tea/coffee and mints, is dependent on the IBM subsidy which has again been reduced, and is £16.00 for members/first guests, and £35.00 for any subsequent guests.

Wine or drinks with the meal is not included, but a small discount has been arranged should you wish to purchase from the bar.

Please make your menu choices from the following menu.

Sub-Groups of Retirees Club and Employee Club

IBM Retirees Rambling Group

The IBM (Warwick) Rambling Club is now a subsection of the IBM Midlands Retiree Club. Any member of the Midlands Retiree club is welcome to join our subsection. Our subs are £5 per person per year. Our programme consists of a meal in late February, a monthly ramble with a pub lunch using own transport and an AGM in December. The meal for 2018 will be held at Micatto (Italian) in Warwick on Thuesday 27th February. In the past we have shared a trip using coach transport with retiree sightseers in May or June - this year there is the possibility of a week-long trip in June.

Any retiree who would like to give us a try, can come along on one of our monthly walks without needing to join. Meal subsidies are available only to members and not for those joining us on a trial basis.

Go to a list of the planned walks for 2018 and other information.

For more information, please contact Terry King, terryaking@hotmail.com.

IBM Retirees PC and Technology Group (founded by Harry Green)

The IBM Retirees PC and Technology Group meets every alternate month for a lively discussion on PC and technology topics in the digital age. There are usually one or two specific presentations given by members or by outside speakers, which the members of the Group have requested. We try to provide a reasonable balance between PC “techie” topics, new technology, and topics of a more general nature such as digital television, Internet telephony and digital photography. So whether you are a newcomer to the PC or a more experienced user, we hope you will find something of interest. You are very welcome to join us.
