October 2012 Newsletter
Editorial
Kent always has something new to offer and our trip uncovered some interesting areas, Hever and Dover castles, Tunbridge Wells and Dungeness being just a few. We managed to dodge the showers (or at least most of them) and all went smoothly. So many thanks to Tony and Simon for organising an excellent few days.
Coming up shortly is the skittles evening which is fast becoming an annual event and of course the Christmas Lunch - announcement and booking form in this Newsletter. There is also our trip to Budapest for the Christmas Markets - two places have become available, so if you would like to go contact Alan Bridgeman as soon as possible.

Chairman's Notes - October 2012
Well, we had a good Planning meeting in August and are now halfway through the process of constructing the programme of events for 2013. Thanks to everyone who sent suggestions to the Committee - we have tried to take account of as many as possible.
Gill and I visited the Guide Dog Breeding Centre in Bishops Tachbrook, near Leamington, this week. We can thoroughly recommend it for all those of you who like dogs and wish to know more about how Guide Dogs are bred and trained. This is a new centre which was built for £40 million and opened last year. It is the only Guide Dog breeding centre in the UK. It is currently producing up to 1500 puppies per year. If you wish to know more, click on this link:-

I hope to see as many of you as possible at our Christmas lunch on Monday 17th December.

Announcements and Advertisments
COVENTRY BLITZ A fully dramatised production of “One Night in November” by Alan Pollock, depicting the events of 14th November 1940, will be held at Burton Dassett Church on Saturday 27th October 2012 at 7.30pm. Previously staged in the Belgrade Theatre in 2008, it poses the question “Would you sacrifice a city to win the war?”. The Birmingham Post said “A gripping piece of storytelling, with touches of humour amongst the misery as the tragic events of the night and its impact on the city of Coventry unfold.” This promises to be a moving and thought-provoking evening, not to be missed. Tickets are £12 each and will include a glass of wine. Proceeds will go towards repairing the roof of the church after thieves have twice stripped the lead.
Contact Dave Compton ( Email: dave@compton-family.eu) for further information and to book tickets.

Sub-Groups of IBM Club and Retirees Club
IBM Retirees PC and Technology Group (founded by Harry Green)
The IBM Retirees PC and Technology Group meets every alternate month for a lively discussion on PC and technology topics in the digital age. There are usually one or two specific presentations given by members or by outside speakers, which the members of the Group have requested. We try to provide a reasonable balance between PC "techie" topics, new technology, and topics of a more general nature such as digital television, Internet telephony and digital photography . So whether you are a newcomer to the PC or a more experienced user, we hope you will find something of interest. You are very welcome to join us.
