Event Reports
E2505PPL: Pete’s Place 29th May 2025
Although the weather didn’t look promising at first, it changed, and lots of people, and lots of children and grandchildren, enjoyed a superb day out in Pete’s beautiful estate. The young children in particular had a great time running and playing on the grass, and everyone enjoyed riding on the trains and steam boat.
We were able to donate £275 to The Air Ambulance.

E2506LAK - Holiday in Lake District - 7th to 14th June
Six club members enjoyed a week’s holiday in the Lake District staying in self catering accommodation in Grasmere. Overall we had good weather from Sunday to Friday although it rained heavily on the drive there and also the return drive, both on Saturdays.
We had excellent dinners in the Grasmere hotels including The Swan, The Inn and the Grand Hotel.
Several walks were undertaken including:
- Around Grasmere lake
- To the top of Helm Crag
- To Easedale Tarn
Towns visited included Keswick and Ambleside.
A boat trip around Derwent Water was also undertaken.

The club will book you a discounted group ticket allowing entry to the extensive and beautiful grounds of Stoneleigh Abbey before a ~1 hour guided tour of the state apartments in the west wing of the House at 2 pm.
We could also book a snack afterwards in their tea rooms, at extra cost. You can choose any from the following list:
As above with tea or coffee and cake £22.50 pp.
With scone, jam and cream instead of cake £23 pp.
With buffet-style afternoon tea £30 pp.
(Members of Historic Houses might get a discount of the grounds entry price - to be confirmed).
Please note, the only alternative dietary requirement is Vegetarian, not vegan.
The house (CV8 2LF) has a large car park. Their brochure says:
We welcome disabled visitors to Stoneleigh Abbey. A disabled parking bay is available a short distance from the ticket office. Wheelchair users Should be aware that the paths around the Abbey are gravel and that they are permitted to travel over grass verges as necessary. A flat route is available to the House and to the Orangery Tea Room. The distance from the Ticket Office to the Orangery is around 200 yards. We can also offer a pre-booked loan wheelchair.
A lift is available to all floors of the house that are open for public viewing,
there is a good colour contrast between the floor and walls for those with visual impairment.
Assistance dogs are welcome.
Disabled toilets are situated next to the Ticket Office opposite the car park, in the West Wing of the house and in the Orangery.

The Friends of Burton Dassett invite you to an evening of music performed by The Midlands Youth Jazz Orchestra (MYJO) at All Saints’ Church, Burton Dassett, on the evening of Friday 20th June. We are very fortunate that the MYJO have chosen our venue for the second year running; they are very popular having performed on television and radio and in most major jazz festivals all over the world, including performances in Canada, USA and Europe.
The bar will be open from 6:30pm and performance begins at 7:45pm. We hope you will take the opportunity to support these amazing young people. Bring a picnic to enjoy before the performance if the weather is fine. Apart from the technical discussion we try to have a talk by a club member at each meeting. This depends very much on members volunteering to prepare and show something they are interested in.
