The committee is planning an evening meal, provisionally in Leamington on Wednesday 7th August. It is intended to be “non-ethnic” to satisfy general tastes. Details will follow in the July newsletter.

Event Report: E1905PPL Pete’s Place — 31st May 2018
Against all the odds, this event managed to avoid the recent appalling weather. Around sixty guests enjoyed picnics in the beautiful grounds and had rides on the steamboat and the many trains that circled the lake and threaded their way through the woods. I am pleased to report that the donations received raised £200.00 for the Air Ambulance, sadly £20 less than last year.

Event report: Northamptonshire Gardens and Hall Visit
The Northampton gardens trip was taken by 28 retirees on Thursday 13 June. They visited Coton Manor Gardens and the Cottesbrooke Hall and gardens. It was raining heavily on arrival at Coton Manor but luckily they had a nice cafe there for drinks and lunches The gardens were lovely and covered 10 acres. A 45 minute guided tour of Cottesbrooke Hall was very interesting and the gardens there were also very attractive. In spite of the poor weather that day everyone was pleased with the overall event and several stated they would like to revisit the gardens when the weather was better.

Thank you for your feedback on proposed dates for the visit to Bath and based on this we have selected Thursday 26th September.
We will leave IBM Warwick by coach at around 09:00 and be dropped off in the Centre of Bath late morning when we will have some free time to have lunch and browse.
At 14:00 we will meet our Guides from the “The Mayor of Bath’s Corps of Honorary Guides” who are a highly recommended group of voluntary guides.

We will have a walking tour of the sights of Bath taking approximately two hours. We won’t be going inside any buildings. The guidelines for the tour are.
“The walks take place within the city and are about 2 miles (3km) in length with a gradual climb of about 100 feet (30 metres). The route is not physically demanding and will be taken at a leisurely pace but may include steps and some short slopes. ”
Following the tour we will return to the coach for the journey back to Warwick.
The cost of the visit to Bath will be approximately £16 per person. To book a place please fill in the booking form and send it with your deposit cheque for £5 per person made payable to IBM Retirees Club (Midlands), to:

Covering 5 nights bed and breakfast in a good hotel, with return travel by Eurostar from Ebbsfleet International station. Approximate price per person member and 1st Guest about £1175, 2nd Guests £1250. Sadly there will probably be a single room supplement. (I have removed the option to start from St Pancras as it makes things like parking for 6 days a real pain.)
We have the minimum interest of 10 people from last year, and to retain a reasonable subsidy we'll have a maximum of 16.
Travel times:
Depart Ebbsfleet 13:15pm, arrive Amsterdam Central 18:44pm.
Return Amsterdam 12:15pm, arrive Ebbsfleet 15:45pm.
You’ll need to make your own way to Ebbsfleet, which has “international airport” style car parks for about £50 for a week’s ticket - see here - ebbsfleetintl.co.uk/parking. In either case, Eurostar point out that you need to take your suitcases and hand baggage with you. There’s a change at Brussels with a Thalys train which involves moving between the Eurostar terminus and a different part of the station, so don’t over-pack.
Checkin time for Eurostar is 60-90 minutes.
As we won’t have left the EU until at least the end of October, existing passport and European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) rules remain in force, but you will still need your own appropriate travel insurance.
To book on this trip, please complete the booking form, and accompany it with a cheque for £150 per person deposit. Note that hotel bookings and final price will depend on the number of people travelling, so I won’t pay the cheques in until you’ve agreed them. Hence, no electronic deposits please.

The IBM Retirees PC and Technology Group meets every alternate month for a lively discussion on PC and technology topics in the digital age. There are usually one or two specific presentations given by members or by outside speakers, which the members of the Group have requested. We try to provide a reasonable balance between PC “techie” topics, new technology, and topics of a more general nature such as digital television, Internet telephony and digital photography. So whether you are a newcomer to the PC or a more experienced user, we hope you will find something of interest. You are very welcome to join us.
