June 2021 Newsletter

As announced in the March newsletter, we are hiring one of Salter’s Steamers’ boats on the Thames for a 5 hour cruise, a glass of prosecco and a barbecue lunch on Wednesday 18th August starting from Abingdon at noon. We currently have 26 people booked, so the event will definitely take place at a price no more than £38 after subsidy; we will happily accept further bookings up to mid July; Salters boats can take many more passengers, and this should be a great way to celebrate the ever-delayed post-COVID reopening! If you had problems following the link to the barbecue menu in the March newsletter, please try again; it’s been fixed.

As a reminder, we have arranged another visit to Pete’s Place in August. This is a great day out for all and a great way to entertain the grandchildren for a day in the summer holidays! See the May newsletter for details.

The topics for this month’s meeting of the Tech Club on Friday 18th June will include electric cars and transfer of video tapes to a PC. See below for information on how to join in.

The Rambling Group is planning the second walk of the year in July. If you would like to join this walk please see the information below. New members are welcome to join without fee.

We will be planning a mid week visit to Batsford in late October to view the wonderful autumn colours in this arboretum. This will be a self drive event. As well as the arboretum there is a large garden centre and gift shop and lunch is available at the Garden Terrace Cafe. Details of the date and booking form will be given in next month’s newsletter.

IBM Retirees Technology Group

The IBM Tech Club meets using the Zoom video conferencing platform at 11.00 on the third Friday of each month. The club is a place where you can talk to IBM folk about matters technical. For example, help or advice on buying or using computers, smart phones, touch pads; engineering, electronics, wifi, bluetooth, cryptography, bitcoin, using computers to making movies, songs or musical works, best software, streaming, the internet, photography, diy, and anything else about the modern world you would like to understand better.

Apart from the technical discussion we try to have a talk by a club member at each meeting. This depends very much on members volunteering to prepare and show something they are interested in.

At 11 o’clock on the day of the meeting click on the link below. It should take you straight into the meeting.

If you need help with Zoom contact John Rickman (rickman@argonet.co.uk) in good time before the meeting.
