E2110BAT: Batsford Arboretum

Fourteen members of the Retirees Club visited Batsford Arboretum on Thursday 21 October. Luckily the weather was sunny all day and this showed the trees in the best light as shown in the photos below. The route through the arboretum was given in the maps handed out. After strolling through the woodland the members were able to purchase very nice hot or cold meals at the Terrace Cafe and there were beautiful views from the outside dining area. After lunch there was a gift shop to browse and also the Batsford garden centre to buy tools and plants.

E2112XML: Christmas Lunch, Thursday 16 December Organiser: Gary Wooding

As announced earlier this year we are arranging a Christmas Lunch at Hockley House, 8640 Stratford Road, Hockley Heath, B94 5NW, which used to be called The Oak Hotel. Although the name has been changed it has the same excellent chef we had at the last successful Spring Lunch.

Hockley House Hockley House

Welcome drinks from 12:00, and sit down at 13:00.

The price for this event, which includes a welcome drink, a 3-course lunch with ½ bottle of wine, rounded off with tea/coffee and mints, is dependent on the IBM subsidy which has again been reduced, and is £27.50 for members/first guests, and £50 for any subsequent guests.

Please make your menu choices from the following menu, which I’m pleased to say has 2 vegetarian options.

Special Note:

If you have a particular preference for red, white, or rosť wine, please indicate such on your booking form.

Please complete the attached booking form and return it to Gary Wooding as soon as possible.

IBM Retirees Technology Group

The IBM Tech Club meets using the Zoom video conferencing platform at 11.00 on the third Friday of each month. The club is a place where you can talk to IBM folk about matters technical. For example, help or advice on buying or using computers, smart phones, touch pads; engineering, electronics, wifi, bluetooth, cryptography, bitcoin, using computers to making movies, songs or musical works, best software, streaming, the internet, photography, diy, and anything else about the modern world you would like to understand better.

Apart from the technical discussion we try to have a talk by a club member at each meeting. This depends very much on members volunteering to prepare and show something they are interested in.

At 11 o’clock on the day of the meeting click on the link below. It should take you straight into the meeting.

If you need help with Zoom contact John Rickman (rickman@argonet.co.uk) in good time before the meeting.
