E2404MIL: Charlecote Mill Guided Tour and Spring Lunch at The Boars Head, Hampton Lucy, 10:30 am, Wednesday 17th April 2024 Organiser: Paul Gover

Charlecote Mill is no mere museum but a 270-year-old working mill still grinding corn using water power alone. Karl Grevatt is its miller.

The price of £10 per head includes a personal insight into the history, working and processes of Charlecote Mill from Karl or an experienced colleague to help with the tour or the mill operation to ensure we the best out of our visit.

For more information, see the fascinating web site at
  www.charlecotemill.co.uk

The mill should be featured in the upcoming series of Rick Stein’s Food Stories, episode 14, 29th February 2024.

Following the mill visit, we'll take lunch at The Boars Head nearby. That will be a pay-as-you-go meal separate from the £10 per head visit fee - more details below.

Maximum number for the tour is 24 people so get your booking form in quickly.

The tour will last for approximately 2 hours.

The mill has uneven floors and steep stairs so anyone with mobility difficulties may struggle. Karl finds most people who donít feel able to venture around the whole mill do still enjoy their visit soaking up the atmosphere. To help keep visitors safe Karl would appreciate and encourage masks to be worn throughout our visit, not only for Covid 19 but also due to flour dust.

Please note that the mill does not have public toilet facilities.

There is no parking at the mill, but we are combining the visit with a meal at The Boars Head in Hampton Lucy, 6 minutes walk away, so parking is in the village at or near the pub.

Lunch will be at 1pm at The Boar's Head; their web site is:
  www.theboarsheadhamptonlucy.com
and their current menu (which will be replaced before the trip, so I will circulate an update it when available) is at:
  www.theboarsheadhamptonlucy.com/menu

Paul Gover: pmw.gover@yahoo.co.uk and when your booking is confirmed, EFT instructions will be sent to you,
OR fill in the booking form and send it with your cheque made payable to IBM Midlands Retirees Club, to:

IBM Retirees Technology Group

The next Tech club is Friday 15 March 2024; Charles Barnwell will be describing his experiences with Home Assistant open source home automation software.

The IBM Tech Club meets using the Zoom video conferencing platform at 11.00 on the third Friday of each month. The club is a place where you can talk to IBM folk about matters technical. For example, help or advice on buying or using computers, smart phones, touch pads; engineering, electronics, wifi, bluetooth, cryptography, bitcoin, using computers to making movies, songs or musical works, best software, streaming, the internet, photography, diy, and anything else about the modern world you would like to understand better.

Apart from the technical discussion we try to have a talk by a club member at each meeting. This depends very much on members volunteering to prepare and show something they are interested in.

At 11 o’clock on the day of the meeting click on the link below. It should take you straight into the meeting.
